Oakwood is a Meritage Homes neighborhood on about 134 acres on the Orange County side of Mebane, bounded by Oakwood Street, Mattress Factory Road, and Washington Street. The townhomes are on the western side near the planned amenity center, and the single-family homes fill the eastern side.
Meritage markets Oakwood as near downtown Mebane. East Washington Street runs beside the railroad straight into the older part of town. Because it is on the Orange County side, homes here are assigned to Orange County Schools and pay the Orange County property tax rate on top of the city rate.
Buyers usually weigh it against Cambridge Park, a D.R. Horton neighborhood on the Alamance County side, and Tupelo Junction, which is also on the Orange County side. Oakwood's single-family homes start higher, near $408,000, compared with about $340,000 to $349,000 at the other two, but its plans run larger, with five-bedroom options over 3,000 square feet.
Check before you count on it. When the city approved the rezoning in April 2021, the developer promised a clubhouse, pool, turf fields, tot lot, and dog parks in the first phase. In September 2026, Meritage still described the pool, clubhouse, and tot lot as planned amenities. Recent listings showed HOA dues of about $50 a month for single-family homes and $140 for the townhomes, and our Mebane townhomes page breaks down what the townhome dues cover.
Meritage lists Efland Cheeks Global Elementary, two middle schools (A.L. Stanback and Gravelly Hill), and two high schools (Orange High and Cedar Ridge High) for Oakwood. Because the list includes more than one middle and high school, assignment can depend on the address. Confirm a specific home with Orange County Schools before you sign.
With several Oakwood homes listing October 2026 delivery, I match the builder's completion date against your lease end or home sale so you are not paying for two places.
